Shalom was started in the year 1989 as a small prayer group.
In time God gave it a vision - a vision
to spread the word of God through mass media and to intercede
for the whole world with an aspiration to save souls.
The realization of
this vision started with the launch of our Malayalam monthly
magazine "Shalom Times" in the year 1993. Since
then this magazine has been catering to the spiritual thirst
of the Malayalees with powerful articles by anointed men
of God. Today it has become one of the leading Christian
magazines in India. To reach out to the non-Malayalees,
especially to people outside India, "Shalom Tidings",
our English magazine was started in the year 1996. It is
a bi-monthly magazine carrying a hallmark of international
quality and style in printing and presentation with articles
rich in spiritual nourishment.
Towards initiating
unity in the Church and to support it in every possible
way, we started the Sunday newspaper 'Sunday Shalom' in
the year 1999, which is presently entering its fourth year
of publication. This is the first Sunday newspaper in Malayalam
and through these years it has earned an influential position
in the Church of Kerala through its pages.
Along with these the
publication ministry of Shalom has on its shelves, a number
of spiritual books authored by Fr.C.J.Varkey, Bro.Benny
Punnathara, Bro.K.J.Mathew, Fr.Joseph Vayalil and other
prominent writers. The books are available in Malayalam,
Hindi, Tamil, English, German and Kannada.
Towards televangelism
Shalom started its Television ministry "Shalom Vision"
in the year 1998. We were able to broadcast 11 half-hour
programmes named "Samadhanam Nammodukoode" in
the ‘Asianet’ channel till September 1999. Now we are on
the stride to launch a full time Gospel channel "Shalom
Television". We hope to bring it on air by the middle
of 2004.
Shalom started its
Internet ministry in the year 1997 when Internet was an
inaccessible medium in India. Mainly targeted at people
living abroad, the Lord has blessed it in a mighty way.
Almost all our publications are now available over the net
for easy access, the addresses being
www.shalomprayer.org,
www.shalomtidings.com,
www.sundayshalom.com,
www.shalomtimes.com,. Along with all the details of our
ministry it has the programmes of almost all the retreat
centers in Kerala and a variety of other resources.
Finally the retreat
team of Shalom. Fr.Joseph Vayalil CMI leads the team and
the other main preachers are Bro.Benny Punnathara and Bro.K.J.Mathew.j
Shalom basically is
an intercession ministry interceding for the world and all
its needs. Prayer requests coming from the world over through
letters, e-mail and telephone are prayed over and replies
are sent personally. On first Friday we have the
'Night
Vigil' prayer, the day on which prayers are lifted up
for all those who have requested for prayers and especially
for the needs of the Church and the world in general.
